Sometimes it’s nice to have a good-old-fashioned dribbling gush, and right now we’re spattering Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli’s shoes with our adoration. Norse god of aesthetic understatement, master storyteller Borgli has been arousing our interest recently with his mixture of short films, sharp advertising and inspired music videos. Smitten with the vulnerable misfits and twisted loners who populate his pieces we’re very excited about his forthcoming short film WHATEVEREST.
His images are utterly absorbing in their sparten simplicity, with motifs of childhood toys like furbies and baseball bats making repeat strange and foreboding appearances. There’s a simple, beautiful honesty in his pared down images that matches his mysterious and disturbing stories. Do cast an eye over this delightful music video; it makes us feel funny.
